The Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s second movie, Modi, sees him take the helm for the first time in 25 years.

The latest movie from Johnny Depp, Modi, also features Al Pacino and Italian actress Luisa Ranieri. The movie, which Depp is directing, has started filming in Budapest, Hungary.

25 years after The Brave, in which the actor also co-starred with Marlon Brando, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor returns to the director’s chair with Modi, according to sources.

In Mawenn’s Jeanne Du Barry, Depp most recently played Louis XV. This was his first acting assignment following his 2022 defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, which had sparked a media storm.

The long-awaited film is based on Dennis McIntyre’s play of the same name, which Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski adapted for the big screen.

According to the synopsis for the movie, “Mod” takes place in war-torn Paris during World War I over the course of 48 chaotic hours.

Along with his longtime manager and fellow producer Barry Navidi, Al Pacino is producing Mod. The movie has the support of IN.2, the production company’s European division. Producers include the Italian ILBE Group, led by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.

Ranieri portrays Rosalie, a character painted by Modigliani as the proprietor of an Italian café in Paris. According to legend, Rosalie also served as Modigliani’s mother, caring for him when he was intoxicated or had run out of money and couldn’t afford a hot meal. Modigliani was a promiscuous Italian artist who passed away at the age of 35.

International art collector Maurice Gangnat is portrayed by Al Pacino. Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Benjamin Lavernhe, Sally Phillips, and Matt Wolf are some of the other actors that have just joined the cast of the movie.

With Pacino, who he previously collaborated with on The Merchant of Venice (2004), Wilde Salome (2011), and Salome (2013), the movie marks producer Navidi’s fourth project with the actor.
